What to Know Before Buying a Steam Bath Generator

A steam bath generator, as its name suggests, is the machine that generates steam for a steam shower. But there are so many models and versions of steam bath generators available in the market that it becomes a very difficult task for a person to choose one of them. There are manufacturers that deal in the selling of readymade steam bath units, which also deal in the selling of steam bath generators separately for the steam bath units. The people who are toying with the idea of building their own steam shower need to purchase their own separate steam bath generator. The manufacturers of the unit should assist these kinds of people in purchasing the right steam bath generator for their unit.

There are some points to be remembered while shopping for a steam bath generator. If you don’t want to face any problem afterwards, you need to take care now in the planning, design and purchasing stage. To select a generator of proper size, you need to know the correct measure of your  enclosure area in terms of cubic feet, because every steam bath generator is assigned an output capacity in terms of cubic feet it can support.  This output capacity is the index for a consumer that states the amount of steam what they would get from a particular generator in a given size of steam shower enclosure.

You can get the size of your enclosure in cubic feet by multiplying the three dimensions of the enclosure with each other, that is to say, length, height & width. To make it clear, let us assume that your enclosure is 12 feet long, 10 feet high & 4 feet wide, and then the size of your enclosure will be 12*10*4 = 480 cubic feet. Now that you know the size of your steam room, you can select a generator of suitable capacity; in this case you will need a generator that is rated for a minimum of 480 cubic feet.

But it is not only the size of the steam room enclosure that matters while choosing a suitable steam generator. You will also have to take into account the material with witch your steam room is made up of. If the material used is ceramic tile then it is fine to use the stated capacity of the steam bath generator as a gauge as no excess heat loss occurs. But if the material is glass that looks out on a cool space or looks outdoors in a cool climate or some kind of stone, as stone absorbs a lot of heat, then you will have to get a steam room generator that has the capacity of almost double the size of your enclosure.

In this case, for our given example, you will have to consider a generator that has the capacity of almost 960 cubic feet or more. The reason for choosing a steam bath generator that has the capacity twice of the enclosure in case of glass or stone is that the stone or the glass absorbs a large part of the heat than the tile does. In other words, it can be said that the glass or the stone is not a very good insulator of heat.  Materials matter in selecting your steam bath generator.  You may also want to consider using a steam shower generator.
